the sunshine blogger award part 1

I’m chuffed as nuts, because I was nominated for this award not once, but TWICE. The blogging community is something I don’t feel like I’ve really cracked yet. There are cliques and friends and stuff and I’m not a part of any of it, so the fact that two fellow bloggers even know I exist is super amazing 🙂

I’ve answered both sets of questions, the first eleven in this post, and the second eleven the sunshine blogger award part 2. I stuck with the same eleven nominees and questions for both posts though, it seemed excessive to do two sets of those too!

Firstly I was nominated by Becca from Missing in Sight. Check out her blog for loads of positivity and really good pick-me-ups. She really brings a smile to my face with her writing and unique take on weekly reviews. Using gifs is a hella good idea!

Anyway, here we go:

The rules:

  1. Thank blogger(s) who nominated you in the blog post and link back to their blog.
  2. Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you.
  3. Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions.
  4. List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog.

The Questions:

  1. What strengths and weaknesses do you bring to blogging?

Ummmmm I’m not too good at recognising my own strengths (I guess that’s a weakness?). I suppose I write original content? But then we all do that so I wouldn’t say that’s something that specifically *I* bring to blogging. I like to think my posts are entertaining and insightful. You can be the judge of that though. As for weaknesses I can think of THOUSANDS. I don’t posts consistently enough (something I’m working to change this year). I don’t connect with other bloggers very easily because I’m not really a “people person”. There’s no specific focus to my blog, it falls into the category of “stuff”. Oh! I thought of a strength! I’m honest and hopefully relatable.

  2. What is at the top of your bucket list?

It was to visit Canada, but I did that last year so I need to re-evaluate my bucket list a bit. Definitely something travel related. As much as I really want to go back to Canada and see more, I think I’ll put other places first for now. Scandinavia looks good, but expensive. South East Asia  is probably top at the moment, but I don’t know when I’ll get to go there owing to being a poor person.

  3. What is the one item you can’t leave home without?  Why?  Cell phones excluded.

Well I was going to put house keys but that’s super boring. Other than that the only thing I can think of is a spare hairband. My hair is super thick so I’m always snapping hairbands.

  4. What is your biggest fear?

SLUGS. And having no money. I only recently realised that I was so worried about money. Christmas kinda ruined my bank balance and I’ve felt really insecure ever since. There is still money in my bank accounts if you add it all up. Before I took a career break I had loads of savings though, so I’ve always felt like I could still look after myself if anything really big went tits up. What if we lost the house for any reason? What if I had to live on my own? What if I lost my job? I need that backup so I can sleep at night and not worry about these unlikely problems.

  5. Whom was the best teacher you ever had?  What quality did you like?  Why? (I cheated.  3 questions in one. )

My Geography teacher Mrs Allen. No one else really liked her, but she was the only teacher that ever really believed in me. When I was a teenager my main aspiration was to be Prime Minister, which got laughed down by everyone else, including my teachers. Mrs Allen didn’t laugh at me, she encouraged me. She was super impressed when 12 year old me wrote a letter to Tony Blair expressing my opinion about the Iraq war. It wasn’t an *impressive* letter, for an adult. But I was 12 and politically engaged. Isn’t that what “they” want us to be? To everyone else it made me weird, but Mrs Allen appreciated it for what it was – an ambitious young girl trying to get her voice heard.

  6. How would you describe yourself in one complete sentence?

A bean in a bean pod who loves her cat.

  7. Which app do you use most?  Why?

Probably Twitter because it’s good to scroll through when you’re bored, and I’m in a blogger chat group on there which is pretty cool. Also it’s where I get most of the engagement for my blog from.

  8. What is your favourite piece of clothing that you own?  Share why and describe it.

My pyjamas because they’re super comfy. I’m one of those people that bodyslams into their pyjamas as soon as I set foot in the house. It’s weird when people wear outdoor clothing inside. The main purpose of life is to be comfy, and pyjamas are the comfiest thing there is.

  9. What is one of your bad habits?

Oh man I have so many, how can I choose only one!? Picking at my split ends when I’m bored is probably quite weird.

  10. What job would you be terrible at?

Anything where I have to interact with a lot of people. I used to have to influence people when I worked in Marketing, and interact with a store of 350 co-workers and with colleagues on a national level. Actually, I don’t think I was that bad at it but when my job was made redundant I was made to feel like I’d done a terrible job (despite hitting all of my many KPIs). So I guess it would be that. I’d never have the faith in myself to be any good at something like that again.  Isn’t that just a textbook example of a self fulfilling prophecy?

    Oh, also anything sporty.

  11. What do you wish you knew more about?

The universe and the sea. Both absolutely fascinate me, but no matter now much Blue Planet or Wonders of the Universe I watch, I still feel like my mind is completely blown every time I think too much about either.

I nominate:

My Questions:

Why did you start blogging?

What’s the best book you’ve ever read? Why did you like it so much?

What do you do as your day job? Do you enjoy it?

If you had infinite money, what would you do?

Which brands would be your absolute dream to work with?

If you were a superhero what would be your superpower?

What’s your favourite thing about where you live?

How do you clear your head?

Do  you play any instruments? If not, which instruments would you love to learn?

What age do you feel right now and why?

If you could witness any event of the past, present, or future, what would it be?

I super look forward to reading everyone’s responses! Also, if you’ve already been nominated, don’t worry about answering again unless you’re really into answering questions!
