falling for fall – 10 questions about autumn

falling for fall
Thanks to Hebah for tagging me in the Falling for Fall tag! I LOVE autumn, I’d say it’s one of my favourite seasons, but I swear I say that at the start of every season. Or even the slightest change in the weather. Nevertheless, right now it is my favourite and I’m having a great time doing all the nice autumn things I’ve been looking forward to since I got bored of summer. There is also a whole lot of Halloween excitement going around and I have a lot of time for that.

So, here’s my answers to the questions. Enjoy, and pass it on by copy and pasting the questions at the bottom and tagging your favourite people!

  1. What is your favourite Fall scent?
Not really a scent in the traditional sense of the word, but I really love how the air smells when the seasons are changing and the mornings are getting chilly. I really hate leaving the house in the morning. I hate doing ANYTHING in the morning, actually, but it’s slightly less difficult when the thickness of humid summer days is clearing and the browning leaves bring the excitement of change.
  2. Do you prefer apple stuff or pumpkin stuff?
I loooove pumpkin stuff. It’s so novelty! You get apples all year round, but pumpkins are exclusively an autumn thing. I’m looking forward to making a spiced pumpkin tart and pumpkin soup, as well as the traditional carving of a dubious face into the side of a pumpkin. That said, apple with cinnamon is delicious, especially in a fresh hot pie.

  3. What is one thing that you look forward to every single Fall?
Halloween! obvs. Aside from that I most look forward to cosying up in bed with a hot chocolate (or a Baileys) when it’s chilly outside. It’s great to be able to enjoy the warmth of my huge king-sized quilt and the thousands of blankets (only slight exaggeration) that we have littered around the house.
  4. How do you like to spend the more chilly/cloudy days in the Fall?
If it’s a dry chilly day I like to go for a walk on the common. During bad weather I like to snuggle up in bed and watch some Netflix with the window open. Few things can top the feeling of being warm and dry inside while the rain lashes it down.
  5. Which do you prefer: Halloween or Thanksgiving?
I’m British so I know nothing of Thanksgiving. Halloween, however, is one of the main holidays of the year and should be a bank holiday.

  6. What is one way you do to embrace the Fall season?
There’s nothing I actively do to embrace autumn, but there is a bunch of stuff I do every year as the weather gets colder and the nights draw in. I tend to get all deep and nostalgic as dusk falls in the evening, especially when I’m walking by myself. There’s something about it that takes me back to chilly garden parties and drinking Smirnoff Ice as a teenager with my best friends.
  7. What photos would you like to get this Fall season?
I took some nice ones of pumpkins and various other squashes at Artis zoo in Amsterdam the other day to use in autumny blogs and stuff. I’d like to get some of the leaves changing colour and the trees becoming bare. I feel a walk in the forest coming on!

  8. Favorite childhood memory from this season?
I’m not sure I have a favourite, but I do always associate it with renewal in a similar way to new year. I suppose because every year from the age of 4 to 20 it was the start of a new term, and therefore a new chance to make friends, get good grades, and be generally awesome. Even now I’ve not been in education for a while, that feeling hasn’t quite left me. I still feel that same optimism around September/October every year.
  9. What is your favorite trend (fashion/makeup/etc) so far this season?
I like the same thing every year – chunky knit jumpers. As soon as the first leaf falls I’m busting out the thick cardigans and inevitably sweating in them because it’s never quite cold enough yet. But when it IS cold enough chunky knit is divine.
  10. Describe what the Fall weather really looks like where you live.
Well I live in the south of England, so it varies wildly from one day to the next. Right now we have the very edge of a hurricane and the sky is all yellow, but that’s not normal. Usually it’s a mixture of nice cold, crisp days and horrible wet and mild days. Sometimes we get some warm, sunny days thrown in too. Or, the day will start warm and sunny and get rainy halfway through so you’re not dressed appropriately.
