Blogtober Day 27: My Favourite Ways To Relax

Relaxation is such an important part of life, and definitely something I’ve not done enough of lately! Because I don’t get a lot of time to relax, when I do it has to be something super refreshing. I need to make sure I use the time between being busy to really recharge and give my brain a bit of a rest.

Without relaxation we burn out, so it is crucial to make time for it. There are so many different ways to relax, and which one you choose really depends on what you need a break from! Sometimes spending some time scrolling through Instagram is relaxing, but if it’s social media that’s stressing you out, some time alone with a good book might be what’s in order!

These are my favourite ways to relax, and they have saved me from stressful doom many times. Sometimes all it takes is finding some time to yourself where you can just stop for a bit and do something you love.

1. Taking a bath

bath lights are pretty
It’s become a bit of clichΓ©, but that’s only because it works! Pour in the bubble bath, steam up the bathroom, light some candles and voila! The perfect personal spa. If you need extra relaxation pop on a face mask and choose a chill playlist. Lay back and close your eyes. All the troubles melt away.

2. Nexflix bingeing

This is something I used to do just in general, but now I’ve got so much other stuff on all the time, it’s become a rarity and quite a novel way to relax! Curling up in bed with a cup of tea and netflix on the telly is sometimes exactly what I need. The key to making it super relaxing is to make sure you’re not doing anything else. Close the laptop, lay back, add a few pillows, and relax. The most effective relaxing show for me is anything David Attenborough.

3. Reading a good book

When I need to switch off from the world around me this is the perfect thing to do. Put my phone away, turn off the laptop, and just read. Reading it so great because it transports you from real life into a different world. Everything you’re worried about doesn’t exist for a while as you become a part of the novel.

4. Do  some yoga

Yoga is known for its relaxation and meditation techniques. Choose the right video on YouTube, preferably one that has a lot of deep breathing exercises and laying down poses. I always turn to Yoga with Adriene when I fancy a bit of relaxation yoga. A good ten minute yoga flow can totally change the pace of your day.

5. Go for a walk

Walking is awesome in so many ways. It helps you escape your usual surroundings, which is especially good if it’s your daily grind that’s making you stressed. I love a nice walk, and I’m lucky enough to live next to the Common, but even if you’re not close to open space, pop some music in  your ears and just go for a stroll. Even in the rain walking has helped me relax. The fresh air and time alone can do wonders.

  1. I’ve never actually taken a bath before (that I remember) but I’ve done the rest! I personally like binge watching Netflix and if I’m not being a couch potato, next would be taking a walk!

    1. Binge watching is just the best isn’t it! I’m shocked that you’ve never taken a bath, I was raised on baths! But we didn’t have a shower until I was like, 12 years old, which is probably stranger!

  2. Taking a bath is literally the beeest!! I don’t have a bathtub anymore since I moved back home, and I seriously took it for granted πŸ™ I wish I could have taken baths every night now…

    1. I can’t imagine not having a bathtub :O One day you will and it will be the most glorious bath ever! In the meantime long hot showers are also a pretty good way to relax – Lush do shower bombs now too!

  3. Yes to all of these!! πŸ’•πŸ’• I love a good bubble bath, now I want fairy lights in my bathroom. So cute!!

  4. Love these relaxation tips! One to add to your bath ritual – in the hottest water you can stand try adding essential oils like lavender, some pink Himalayan sea salt, epsom salt, and baking soda. 1 cup each of the salts and soda and about about 20-30 drops essential oil. Use a good quality oil like doterra or young living. Makes a wonderfully relaxing and detoxing bath!
