27 things I’ve learnt in 27 years

27 things in 27 years
So I had my 27th birthday and I have graduated to the middle of the second half of my twenties. I still feel like I’m eighteen years old, but actually I’m nearly ten years older than that. In my brain I think I stopped ageing at eighteen. I’ll still be eighteen when I’m sixty. Suppose it’s good that I also look younger than I am. Maybe I can stop being offended when I get IDed all the time now haha.

Anyway, I like to think I’ve learnt something about life in those 27 years. I mean, apart from walking and talking and reading and all the other stuff people generally learn. Seeing as it seems to be a thing that bloggers do, here’s a list of 27 things I’ve learnt in 27 years on this planet.

27 things I’ve learnt in 27 years

  1. Own who you are. It’ll make you untouchable.
  2. Perfectionism is a curse. Adequate is better than nothing.
  3. Being weird is beautiful, embrace it.
  4. Self-love is a long and arduous journey, and don’t listen to anyone who says it’s easy. It’s okay not to love yourself yet.
  5. You are never stuck, no matter how much you feel like you are.
  6. Be careful who you give your loyalty to. It may not be reciprocated when times get tough.
  7. Sometimes walking away is the hardest thing you could do, but also the best.
  8. You should accept accountability for your actions, but remember things aren’t always your fault.
  9. Saying sorry too much can be just as annoying as never saying it at all
  10. Just do the thing. If you have the resources available to you, make it happen.
  11. But at the same time accept that not everyone does have the resources, and that’s not their fault. Understand your own privilege.
  12. Strive to improve yourself, but don’t beat yourself up about not being there yet. Everything is a journey, so enjoy the ride.
  13. You dreams should be fluid. It’s okay to change your mind about what you want from life.
  14. It’s likely that other people see you differently to how you see yourself, in a good way.
  15. A lot of the things you feel are human. It’s okay to be sad sometimes, it’s okay to cry, it’s okay to feel jealous, it’s okay to feel proud. As long as you don’t act on it in a negative way.
  16. Equally, if you feel sad too much of the time, then it’s okay to ask for help. You don’t need to feel that way.
  17. You probably know way more than you think.
  18. No one’s pain is more “valid” than anyone else’s. If someone is upset or angry they’re entitled to feel that way, because the reason is obviously important to them even if it doesn’t seem important to you.
  19. Keeping fit and healthy is actually kinda important. I’m only 27 but I am not as bendy as I used to be, and I definitely don’t have as much energy. I took it for granted and I need to get it back.
  20. Alcohol is a poison. A wonderful poison of fantastic times, but a poison none the less. That’s why hangovers are so brutal. I’m not saying don’t drink (duh), just try be a bit careful.
  21. Hating people gets you nowhere. I’m not a big hater anyway, but the times I have been that mad at people have only tired me out.
  22. Try not to burn bridges with people. It will only make it harder when you miss them.
  23. You won’t love everyone who loves you, and you don’t have to feel bad about that.
  24. You can’t do everything all of the time.
  25. Life is hard work but you kinda gotta do it anyway.
  26. Being an introvert is really difficult in an extrovert’s world, but they don’t know our power until we need them to.
  27. Friendships made at school really can last. If you make amazing friends you’ll never really be alone. And you never know, you might end up living with them in a gorgeous house with two handsome cats n_n
